Andryj completed his BSc in Forensic Chemistry at the University of Kent and remained at Kent for a PhD under the supervision of Dr Ewan Clark. His doctoral studies focused on the synthesis of sulfur- and phosphorus-nitrogen heterocyclic radicals for the development of magnetic main-group materials. Following this, Andryj moved to the University of Edinburgh for a post-doctoral position with Dr Michael Cowley, investigating the chemistry of aromatic phosphorus-boron heterocycles and multiply bonded main-group species. Andryj then moved overseas to Toronto, Canada, for a short research visit with Professors Thomas Baumgartner and Chris Caputo to explore the applications of fluorescent phospholes in determining Lewis acid strength. In June 2020, Andryj returned to Europe for a post-doctoral position with Professor Eva Hevia at Universitat Bern, Switzerland. His research studies s- and d-block heterobimetallic complexes, focusing on their catalytic applications and mechanistic studies. Andryj is also the creator of the Schlenk Line Survival Guide, an open-access website and resource containing step-by-step guides and detailed illustrations, for the manipulation of air- and moisture-sensitive chemicals. Outside of the lab, Andryj enjoy plants, Belgium beer and keeping fit.
